Listen: I'lls – Plans Only Drawn
Melbourne trio I’lls have unveiled their new EP, entitled A Warm Reception. The follow up to 2011 debut Threads is due out on 21 May via Best Fit label crush Yes Please and after hearing its first cut, ‘Plans Only Drawn’ we’re already licking our lips at the prospect of more delicately constructed electronica.
As difficult and uncomfortable as lumbering an emerging band with the weight of a Radiohead comparison is, it must be said that there’s a noticeable tint of Kid A’s purifying aura clinging to ‘Plans Only Drawn’. Perhaps it’s the warped vocals of an insistent Simon Lam, those pulmonic percussive ticks, the atmospheric lulls or the impossibly slick symbiosis between narcoleptic organ swells and oily guitar strokes. Whatever the hell it is, I’lls probably aren’t the next Radiohead, but they sure know how to make beautiful music.
