Listen: Hockeysmith – “Meanwhile”
A befittingly eery new song from Hockeysmith emerged online today and in turn adds further weight to the endless potential the mysterious sisterly duo are harbouring.
Annie and Georgie – who write and record their material via their camper van home in Cornwall – approach their music with a playful sense of unease. ‘Meanwhile’ centres more on meditation than structure, it’s the first track to follow on from the sisters’ debut AA single ‘Let’s Bang’ / ‘Now I Want To’. Guided by a delicate acoustic guitar refrain, the song shuffles with ghostly reverberated vocals and a rather aggressive sounding synthetic bass drum.
Sitting somewhere between the otherworldly beauty of Julia Holter and the lurking, slightly skewed pop of Warpaint, Hockeysmith are creating a sound that is very much of their own making.
Catch them live on Tuesday 5 November at London’s Birthdays in support of Empress Of. A free entry show, click for full info via Rockfeedback.
