Listen: Elephant – Spies [Best Fit Premiere]
There’s no use beating around the bush, South London based duo Elephant are quite simply one of our strongest band crushes at the moment. They unveiled their swoonsome, soaring new single ‘Skyscraper’ at the beginning of last month and to celebrate its release today, we’re delighted to debut the gleefully pared back b-side ‘Spies’.
Sounding drunk on too much fizzy cola, the Memphis Industries signees make use of giddy synth sweeps and a charming ’Toothpaste Kisses’-style guitar motif to counterbalance the rather more propulsive nature of the a-side. A shimmering wash of Warpaint-recalling vocal effects cloak Amelia’s tender tones; tinting the track with the same moreish delicacy as the LA sirens’ lovers note ‘Baby’. ‘Spies’ is a thing of genuine lip-quivering beauty; another heartstring to the precocious duo’s bow.
Elephant play London’s The Waiting Room on 22 May with tickets exclusively available via the band’s tumblr.
