Listen: Cosmo Sheldrake – Rich (Ft. Anna Roo)
Brighton/London musician Cosmo Sheldrake isn’t your average modern day recording artist. Not only does he possess a moniker akin to a minor character from Game Of Thrones, he’s also the son of renowned author and biochemist Rupert Sheldrake and the producer behind ‘Rich’, the most intriguing demo we’ve come across over this lethargic Easter weekend.
Cosmo wields an impressively broad cavalcade of instrumentation from the traditional (parping horns and plucked strings) to the quirky (found sound cat purrs and rustling handclaps) with an understated guile and finesse. You get the distinct impression that this ain’t his first rodeo. And you’d be right, young Cosmo has been playing piano since the age of four but it’s his savvy use of Anna Roo’s looping vocals – delivered with a flicker of childlike wonderment – that lift elevate his rich, bucolic melody making above the current crop of folk-rooted contemporaries in our eyes.
