Nothing bad can happen when you’re listening to Lindstrøm. The Norwegian producer has a uniquely well-honed ability to produce perfectly rounded globules of disco; little spheres of musical serotonin that enter the bloodstream straight through the ears.
‘Rà-àkõ-st’ is one of those gems. Lindstrøm’s unpronounceable new single is, like much of the producer’s catalogue, rather like the soundtrack to the best space travel film never made. It manages to be simultaneously retro-futurist and just futuristic, with the sorts of bass sounds that, back in 1982, signified the extraordinary post-millennial future in which we would all apparently find ourselves, holding up melodic ideas that, in 2012, sound some lightyears ahead of their time.
‘Rà-àkõ-st’ is forthcoming on Smalltown Supersound. Grab the extended edit, mixed by Todd Terje, below.
