Leif Erikson reveal beautifully cathartic second single “Never Get You Out Of My Mind”
At the end of 2015 Leif Erikson appeared with one of the most encouraging UK debuts of the year. “Looking For Signs” was, and remains, a beautifully crafted piece of indie rock, earning the London newcomers a handful of hefty and wholly deserved comparisons.
Now the five-piece, who take their band name from a the relatively little-known Icelandic explorer believed by many to have been the first Westerner to reach the shores of America, have revealed the follow-up to the aforementioned attention-grabber, and it’s another gem.
Once again nodding to the likes of Kurt Vile, The War On Drugs and Fleet Foxes, “Never Get You Out Of My Mind” picks up where its predecessor left off but shows a glimmering, cathartic quality to their songwriting, offering something more romantic and gently sentimental.
However, the track’s overall feel still appeals to those with a penchant for guitar, as gently overdriven work is joined by dreamy, intricate effects bringing colour and crunch in equal measure. Twinkling bells add joyful moments of optimism.
Describing the track as "an acceptance of the realisation that a first love that you thought would last is coming to an end," singer Sam’s vocal tells the tail with an assurance and maturity that recalls the above trio of acclaimed American outfits. There’s no reason why they shouldn’t follow in their footsteps to gain real indie notoriety.
Stream the new statement of intent from the impressive Leif Erikson, a name not leaving our minds any time soon.
