Lauren Aquilina continues to impress with weighty pop gem "Echoes"
Having achieved initial exposure thanks to a series of well-received EPs released while still at school, Lauren Aquilina, still only 20-years-old, has already developed quite the profile, culminating in her signing to Island Records and Universal Music Group last year. Her latest offering "Echoes" ensures such a run is destined to continue at least into the New Year.
Following on from October’s Ocean EP, "Echoes" is another polished and textured release from the young artist. Marrying a defiant set of lyrics with a playful refrain on the keys, the track is a delicious amalgamation of synths and vocals, drawing unsurprising comparisons to other electro-pop acts in the vein of Chrvches.
Aquilina is anything but derivative however, and "Echoes" is a sleek and confident single which boasts the maturity with which she approaches her work without losing any of the vigour only an artist her age can exhibit.
Inspired by an experience with a complex and difficult relationship, there is a weight to the track which is not lost amid its plush instrumentation; something which is testament to the quality of Aquilina's performance.
Co-written with Josephine Vander Gucht and Anthony West, ‘’Echoes’’ is a powerful pop release that further enhances Aquilina’s reputation as a young artist totally deserved of the attention she currently attracts.
