JÁNA collaborates with Little Dragon on the hypnotic debut single “Wild Roses"
As far as dream collaborations go, working with the eclectic Little Dragon is surely up there - never mind for your debut single. Swedish alt-R&B artist JÁNA drops “Wild Roses”.
Emerging Swedish singer-songwriter JÁNA transformed a collage of lyrics and drawings – created in her parents’ garage – into her first captivating release. Collaborating with Gothenburg’s Little Dragon, early supporters of JÁNA (pronounced “yah-na”), “Wild Roses” combines the band's electronic heritage with JÁNA’s hazy and emotive vocals to create a dreamy, lo-fi track.
Written about the beginnings of a new relationship, JÁNA said, “Wild Roses” is about my first impression of this person I was into. A constant changing mind that I was both amazed and intimidated by. That’s also how I would describe the writing process. I’ve never had that satisfaction whilst struggling with lyrics, at the same time I was a bit scared of using a pronoun in there”.
And “Wild Roses” is just a taste of what’s to come, with JÁNA’s debut EP, Flowerworks, arriving this July. "I’ve learned a lot from writing with my idols, Yukimi and Erik from Little Dragon,” she adds. "A wild rose has been a symbol for secrecy and love; giving my past I thought this was a good title for the song.”
