IDER's routine brilliance surfaces again with "Face On", the first track from their debut EP
Sorry to bore you with this but IDER, one of our Ones To Watch for 2017, have dropped the first track from their forthcoming EP and YET AGAIN it's a work of nascent genius.
Taken from their debut extended player Gut Me Like An Animal (out on Aesop, the home of fellow capitalised artists SOHN, TĀLĀ), "Face On" shifts IDER's approach just a little compared to the duo's previous tracks.
Deep, bassy synths match a much lower vocal register from Megan Markwick and Lily Somerville, and pop-trap beats snap and prowl around lyrics concerning some desperate clown (a "wasteman" in the words of IDER) who can't take no for an answer. There's a delicious contrast between the sinister verses (let's not forget some clowns are creepy, right?) and a soaring chorus where the harmonies lighten and a message of empowerment - something IDER has brought us in the past - breaks through the darkness.
Gut Me Like An Animal features production from another Best Fit favourite Shura and a studio version of live favourite "GMLAA".
The EP will be out 31 March. Artwork and track list are below.
Gut Me Like An Animal:
1. Face On
2. Nevermind
3. Does She Even Know (Prod. Shura)
