I Ching – Drive // Song Of The Day #305
You may be forgiven if you haven’t heard of I Ching yet. To date they’ve played alongside Becoming Real, received minor coverage from Huw Stephens, and will be supporting Neon Indian on his London date next week. The London duo (that flesh out to a four-piece live) are named after the ancient Chinese Book of Changes (making them frustratingly hard to Google) and have been blooming modestly under the surface, ready to blossom fully this summer.
Luckily, all that changes today. ‘Drive’ begins with an all-too-familiar twinkling of chimes, but before the half-minute mark the track kicks into gear with a powering force of alt pop bliss. The thought of a band still so young in their own skin to craft a track so rich, textured and bursting with ideas as ‘Drive’ almost beggars belief. Like a soft cooling breeze on a hot summers day, its three and a half minutes pass all too quickly and leave us yearning for more - it demands repeated listens. And who are we to argue? ‘Drive’ is a wonderful introduction to a hugely intriguing act.
Like what you hear? Well, we’re proud to announce that I Ching will be playing a The Line Of Best Fit-curated show at The Lexington on 11 September, along with Sleepy Party People and Fear Of Men. The show is free entry and more on the fantastic billing can be found here.
