Hazey's lo-fi psychedelic pop gem "Young" lifts the January blues
Hazey is a lo-fi bedroom recording project by James Hazell, which quickly harks to the likes of Mac DeMarco and Conan Mockasin. He's built heavily-chorused guitars, synths, and stoned, slacker vocals into a fuzzy, melodic whole. "Young" is the stand out track on his brilliant debut EP, Summers.
Little is known about Hazey - he's very much a newcomer - but his sound feels ready to break out beyond the 8pm support slots he's currently gracing.
Hazey's decision to release his music without any production sheen presents a window into the moods and sounds that decorate Hazey's life. No third party had any influence on this sound; he wrote, recorded and produced everything himself.
The fact that everything's been done independently also highlights Hazey's potential as a producer who can introduce his great pedal taste and lo-fi approach to other burgeoning bands.
