Lapalux apparently has an endless stream of fantastic remixes up his digital sleeve. His refix of Crystal Fighters’ ‘Plage’ was his best work yet – and now he has followed it up with a fittingly plush new take on Gwen Stefani‘s ‘Luxurious’.
The 2004 original is a slinky, soul-aping tune; a lazy California afternoon soundtrack punctuated by Stefani’s hilarious-cum-ridiculous lyrics. In Lapalux’s hands, meanwhile, it is thicker, gauzier, deconstructed. It is also pretty much melodically unrecognisable, thanks in great part to the producer’s expert vocal editing.
Time for a new Lapalux EP, I think….
