Gallant cranks it up with "Weight In Gold" as Zane Lowe's Beats 1 "Future Exclusive"
NYC-born, LA-based soloist Gallant is back and better than ever. "Weight In Gold" shows him marrying his penchant for gorgeously sparse RnB with brighter pop aesthetics.
The song is quite a change from last year's downbeat numbers "Forfeit" and "If It Hurts", sitting much closer to the audacity of April's "Talking In Your Sleep". Opening with trademark sparseness - all hollow blues guitars and breathy whispers - "Weight In Gold" quickly erupts into something much bolder. Thunderclap synths and muscular beats vocals undercut vocals that are stretched to the point of passionate exhaustion.
With Zane Lowe premiering "Weight In Gold" on his much-anticipated Beats 1 debut, we really do start to get the sense of big things for Gallant.
