Feel the force of Me Nd Adam's explosive new single "Foolish Lover"
“Foolish Lover”, the first we’ve heard from electropop duo Me Nd Adam, is a bold rollercoaster of a track with dreamy, meandering synth lines colliding with a fiery pop chorus.
For a track with such spectacular thrust, however, the opening of “Foolish Lover” is ominously quiet, beginning with an ethereal melody that floats strangely over a minimal drum loop.
After lulling the listener into a false sense of security, the chorus crashes in with a screaming blaze of electronica and gritty drones. Almost as suddenly as it arrives, the weight of the chorus vanishes, leaving us with a sparsely accompanied verse that tells of a sybaritic love affair.
The constant interruption throughout “Foolish Lover” is not dissimilar to the iconic “Sail” by AWOLNATION, with both tracks using a half time feel to great effect. Unlike “Sail”, however, the impact of “Foolish Lover” comes not from guitars and drums but from stuttering electronic pads and heavily layered synths.
Offset against this are the carefree lyrics, sung by frontman Adam, who admits: “I wish I was someone’s ‘foolish lover' and the song was rooted in some autobiographical truth but in reality it was just me, alone, rolling around the floor of our buddy’s mouldy dilapidated studio and the phrase just kinda fell out of my mouth.”
All in all, “Foolish Lover” is a stellar first single from Me Nd Adam. With dramatic electropop as polished as this, the future is looking exciting for the Brooklyn duo.
