Flamingods tease rework of debut LP with tropical remix of "Quesso" by Argentina's Esmink [Premiere]
We're starting to think there's not much Flamingods can do wrong these days.
Be it their brilliant last record Hyperborea, which saw the five piece achieve magical cohesion despite being displaced across the globe, or the kaleidoscopic beauty of singles like "Vimana", the band always seem to pique our curiosity.
Their latest venture sees the London-Bahrain band rework their impressive debut album Sun and in this case enlist Argentinian producer Esmink on remix duties for "Quesso".
"The remix is a good example of the great luck we occasionally stumble upon with Flamingods, Kamal Rasool of the band said.
"Our friend Clara was put in touch with Patricio (eSmink) through mutual friends from his native Argentina. After meeting and exchanging conversations, she decides that he would love our music and insists him to visit one of our band practices the next day. He shows up, we hit it off and he ends up plugging in his Handsonic HPD 15, unleashing a kind of electronic drum wizardry we'd never before witnessed!
"It became clear that Patricio could essentially drum on anything he could get his mitts on and as a band of drum enthusiasts, we appreciated it greatly. He's back home in Argentina now but we talk often, hoping to play together again and collaborate whenever we can including this re-working of our first ever single."
What follows is the fairly rare situation of a remix breathing stronger life into the original. At the verse we hear ferocious dub percussion; in the main hook it's all Balearic escapism as polyrhythms soon hit the euphoric sweet spot. Esmink's remix injects the extra bit of zest to "Quesso", awakening a band already praised for their unfaltering energy and ideas.
Moon is released on 14 August via Lovers & Lollypops. Pre-order the album now. The band play Corsica Studios on 21 July.
