We’ve been obsessing over Fear Of Men for a good month now – and today they make their overdue debut on The Line Of Best Fit.
Let’s get the awkward bit out of the way first: this is C86 to the max. The trebly guitar line, the slightly fey Saint Etienne-esque vocal…it’s all there.
And yet the ’80s-aping doesn’t matter – because ‘Ritual Confession’ is simply a fantastic song. Its Catholic-baiting chorus and Sartre-quoting hook are sufficiently catchy that one suspects there is already a pharmaceutical company developing a potion to ward them off, and the vocals will be sending bookish teenage boys weak at the knees imminently.
‘Ritual Confession’ is out on 7″ Italian Beach Babes on 22 August.
