Taylor Swift-approved Emmi brings epic electro-pop to the fore with "60 Minutes" [Premiere]
Forging a career in writing songs for others before suavely swerving yourself into the limelight at the last minute seems to be bringing us some of the most wonderfully talented pop artists at the moment. Lorde has done it. Sia has done it. Now, step forward London-based aussie Emmi, who has taken the same route.
Emmi's new single "60 Minutes" encapsulates everything Sia on the chorus, whilst minimal '90s Sinead O'Connor can be felt from the soulful tones that are being murmured over a sweltering synth that only grows and grows. The song "tells the story of the final hour of a relationship. It's about loving someone enough to let them go, no matter what that means for you," and captures Emmi's meaning behind her branding her music as "epic storytelling pop".
Even Taylor Swift has got behind the singer; she included Emmi's previous single "Sleep On It" on her recent New Songs That Will Make Your Life More Awesome list, which she posted on Twitter recently.
If you like emotional, heart felt electro-pop you should really be listening to this. C'mon, Tay-tay is never wrong.
"60 Minutes" is released on 30 October, the same night Emmi plays Vice House Party at the Old Blue Last.
