Listen: Dornik - "On My Mind"
Back in the summer of 2013 we became more than a little taken by Dornik. His debut, “Something About You”, was a shamelessly sexy slice of steamy RnB that introduced us to the PMR-signee, who quickly became one of the standout flag-bearers for downbeat male-fronted electro.
“Rebound” followed, another slick offering that showcased the more uptempo side to an artist that toured behind the drums for label-buddy and longtime Best Fit love affair Jessie Ware. Now the London singer-songwriter has unveiled another brilliant, structureless cut that hones in on a more psychy side but still envelops that Michael Jackson inspiration that makes him stand apart from his peers.
It’s the bass-line that carries the “On My Mind” along - try and avoid it lurking in your head after listening - with Dornik’s typically breathy and sultry vocal. A recurring theme of lingering and lovelorn thoughts appears here and it’s what makes his music so appealing: that sense of loss delivered in such a smooth “I’m okay with it” way.
It’s been worth the wait from this obvious talent who clearly has so much to come. Get lost in the soul and swagger below:
