LA's Dessert are releasing their debut EP in candle form, hear the suitably complex "Checkmate" now
Dessert share reflective track “Checkmate”, the last to be taken from candle release Songs For Children.
At the end of last year LA three piece Dessert announced the release of their EP Songs For Children in candle form with a visual for bonkers, dipped-in- sprinkles pop cut “Eyes Wide Shut”. New track “Checkmate” - and final piece of music from the project - is reflective and honest, offering a downbeat darkness which we’ve previously not heard from the band.
Talking about the release, the band explain, “We like using the idea of darkness and light as a double edged sword to communicate about honesty in pop music.” Going on to say that, “There's a magic to truth that polarizes people, and we're not afraid of that.” This statement seems particularly important in the “fake news” era we’re currently entering. It’s a shame that while truth, honesty and openness are highly valued within music, in politics the truth – whatever that may be - is overlooked.
“Checkmate” is released alongside a video created by Danica Arias Kleinknecht which aims to show off Dessert’s ability to perfectly match their music to visual components which are representative not only of their sound, but of their message.
