Lapalux has suddenly become one of the most interesting producers in the country. His debut release, the Forest EP, was a noisy, metallic thing that at times teetered around the edge of complete abstraction. The more recent Many Faces Out Of Focus was, ironically, a much more keenly calibrated piece of work; a stunningly produced record with a new focus on rhythm.
Since then, Lapalux has been trickling out a series of truly fantastic remixes. The latest, his rework of Crystal Fighters‘ ‘Plage’, is the best of a good bunch.
Beginning with melancholic, dusky bass, it has a brilliantly unexpected drop, before moving through four or five completely distinct rhythmic sections. Constantly surprising, and consistently excellent – much like the rest of Lapalux’s output.
