Clean Cut Kid announce themselves with the instantly infectious “Vitamin C”
The Liverpool quartet - husband and wife Mike and Evelyn Halls, Saul Godman and Ross Higginson - have got to where they are following extensive day and night rehearsals (Godman even lived in the practise space) and, on top of prolific creative output from Halls, they found their sound. It's been described neatly as “Soulful pop ballads, washed in Mersey water”.
Taking a leaf out of Vampire Weekend’s book, Clean Cut Kid combine moments of rhythmical intrigue with straight-up indie-pop melodies that will lodge cleverly and instantly in between the ears. The couple’s vocals work beautifully together, drawing-out the happily romantic theme as the song crescendos effortlessly: “I’m gonna keep you safe, keep you warm / I’m gonna be here, the vitamin C” Halls cries through its punchy conclusion.
Following a Huw Stephens show at The Social on 9 June, ”Vitamin C” is due for official release through the band’s own Babe Magnet Records (via Polydor) on 24 July, before appearances at Latitude, Secret Garden Party and Somersault Festival this summer.
