The ‘kooky edit of a massive pop song’ is a well-worn trick – and one that always seemed to me to be an admission from some producers that they lacked the melodicism that pop writers have in such abundance. It’s still good fun though, eh?
So yes, remixing Cassie might not be the most world-changingly original move imaginable – but wow this is good. With little pairs of detuned vocals, Yoin’s rework takes the oh-so-sultry menace of the original and turns it into a jukey beauty – claustrophobic and metallic to begin with, before slowly opening up into a wide-eyed synth crescendo.
