Brooklyn's Mas Ysa turns his gaze darkly inward on the stark "Gun"
As the old adage goes, there are two sides to every story. In no place is this truer than between the constituents of a relationship, when things go awry, when things get ugly.
We often don’t hear both sides of the story; sides are taken up, each believing the other to be the world’s worst. Brooklyn-via-Montreal electronic artist Mas Ysa (nee Thomas Arsenault) prudently offers us both halves of the wreckage of a relationship on his latest single, “Gun”.
The third single from his upcoming debut LP, “Gun” rather cryptically details Arsenault’s anguished admissions that he maybe wasn’t the man his partner thought he was. Conversely, Nicole Miglis from art-rock band Hundred Waters offers her serene counterpoint that, no, he wasn’t and that she’s done.
While Arsenault’s prior pair of recent singles highlighted his knack for arms-aloft ‘80s-flavoured synth anthems, “Gun”s stark atmosphere proves his dramatic flair is just as adept at the bleaker end of the spectrum.
Mas Ysa’s debut LP, Seraph, is available 24 July courtesy of Downtown Records.
