Blithe keeps the faith with peppy new track “Work It Out”
On her third release “Work It Out”, Rugby-born singer Blithe determinedly reiterates her pop appeal.
It’s a punchy track that neatly revolves around a spaced-out drum loop before arriving at a crisp chorus where Blithe’s lively vocals are layered over serene synths. “It's a song about optimism,” says Blithe. “No matter how shit things are looking, problems can always be fixed if you really want them to be.”
Fittingly, the song is propelled by a dynamic bassline which serves to accentuate the track’s positive vibe. It makes for a refreshing contrast to the dark, brooding pop that’s so prevalent these days.
However, Blithe isn't naive. She is endearingly self-deprecating about her own limitations, and lines like “you’re a bit shit / I’m a bit mad” show this side of her irrepressible personality.
“We started recording it over a year ago and it was the first one that we chose to put on my EP, so it holds a special place in my heart,” Blithe says of the record. With its undeniable chorus and assured production, “Work It Out” represents a British take on the power-pop of Katy Perry that is bound to resonate across the board. It’s a strikingly confident release and one that certainly marks Blithe out as a pop star in the making.
