Vermont’s Black Fly finds vitality in the limitless city with “Green”
Moving from the solitary setting of his hometown in Vermont to the concrete monoliths of New York City, Black Fly effortlessly captures intimacy through his lens on “Green”.
Whereas the video for his last track “Wait” was a tribute to the nature and people of his home of Vermont, the visuals for Black Fly's new track capture the microcosms of the bustling landscape - a strong sense of place felt as the city rushes past. Punctuated with sharp electronics and Black Fly’s mournful, soaring vocals, “Green” is a rich portrait of humanity.
“'Green’ was filmed in and around the boroughs of NYC with the help of a large cast,” explains Black Fly. “The video is intercut between an interior and exterior world. Documenting people with a variety of backgrounds all trying to relate and relay the same material.”
“From cramped audition, to performance in various frigid winter locations, each actor lip-syncs over the same stabbing synths and perpetual beat. In mood and in message, ‘Green’ aims to find the vitality in bleakness”.
Snapshots roll past beaches and reed marshes, the perennial grass rustling in the soft breeze. Lurching into the boroughs of the surrounding metropolis, car lights and public transport stagger past in the restless city.
