Listen: Beaty Heart – “Banana Bread” [Premiere]
With their debut album release in May and support slots with London funk-pop unit Jungle, it’s all coming up for South London trio Beaty Heart. “Banana Bread” sounds like a band more than at ease with their craft, premiering today at Best Fit.
In true chop-pop style, the percussive elements sound like the boys have plodded around the house and hit every utensil in sight, cleverly superseded by syncopated drum patterns and surf guitars that volley among feral barks and Josh Mitchell’s soothing vocal. There might even be some steel drums in the mix, which, of course, wouldn’t surprise us at all. It’s a more relaxed affair than recent offerings and gives us a taste of what to expect on their debut.
Beaty Heart may well be another ambitious Animal Collective counterpart but, unlike the dozens who try, the band make multifaceted tropical psych pop that’s unquestionably good.
