Isn’t it lovely when good people do well? And So I Watch You From Afar (or the much more Twitter-friendly ASIWYFA) have a truly heartwarming story of genuine independent success, built on a foundation not of record company marketing budgets but relentless touring, spectacular live shows, and increasingly special records. It’s a pretty rare story, the likes of which we should treasure.
ASIWYFA’s latest album, Gangs, felt like a watershed moment for the band; the point at which they began to fulfil their potential. It is one of my most-played records of the last 12 months, and now its standout track is getting a release in its own right.
’7 Billion People All Alive At Once’ is the essence of ASIWYFA distilled into just under six minutes. It’s beautiful, it’s intricate but not wanky, it’s loud and, perhaps most importantly, it has the sort of pounding forward march and wordless, chanting vocal that makes you feel as if you really do belong in their gang.
’7 Billion…’ is out now on Richter Collective. Stream it below.
