With the buzz created from Katy Perry gushing over her debut single, “Catch”, Canadian popstress Allie X gained explosive visibility in a matter of a tweet. Now she’s back with new track, ”Prime”.
Née Allie Hughes, the Gaga-esque songstress has been developing her persona into a well developed, mysterious character over the last few years. “Prime” is a luxurious, bright and ornate composition, where brilliant synth arrangements take centre stage. Allie’s voice has the same excitable and neurotic quirkiness of a young Kate Bush, and yet an oddly confident naivety pervades it.
Exploring the artist’s insecurities and multiple personalities, the track builds up in orchestration, with synth brass and android vocalisations, climaxing in a flurry of what can only be described as synth heaven. It’s a cornucopia for the ears, and Miss X will soon be taking the crown of alt-pop princess.
