Art Of Noise // Delorean

We’ve had this kicking around in the archives for a while now, today just seemed the perfect day to post it up. Had a pretty mesmerising gig experience last night at a Jens Lekman show – won’t go into the details but it was nothing short than life affirming. As expected, the come-down really kicked in this morning and this mixtape by Delorean – creators of one of this years finest records with Subiza – was the perfect antidote.

Considering they’re an act constantly flirting with uplifting balearic house, the following 10 tracks see Delorean reveal their more introspective side – Arthur Russell, Brian Eno and Cocteau Twins all looming large. Download the entire mix at the bottom of the post.

They say it’s not the best CT album but it surely is one of the most embracing, so easy listening and good.

Anna Domino: ‘Land Of My Dreams’
One of the best pop tunes lately, a great and unique pop ballad.

Arthur Russell: ‘A Little Lost’
Arthur Russell needs of course no introduction and this song is simply one of the main reasons to start loving his music.

The Durutti Column: ‘The Rest Of My Life’
This song is taken from the Sex and Death album. Gently played guitars, pop chords and subtle vocals; another great source of inspiration and perfect after Arthur Russell’s song.

John Maus: ‘Through The Skies For You’
This one’s taken from the album Songs and it kind of condenses what John Maus is, all his drama and beauty.

Brian Eno: ‘The Big Ship’
Doing research on my iTunes folder I found this one, perfect as an interlude.

Ariel Pink’s Haunted Graffiti: ‘Can’t Hear My Eyes’
Included in his great new album this song is one of my Ariel Pink favourites, found it on a blog a few months ago and surely on the top list of the most played songs on my iTunes.

Boubacar Traoré: ‘Mantjini’
First discovered on awesometapesfromafrica.blogspot.com, Western African guitar music, kind of blues sometimes and incredibly sung.

David Crosby: ‘I’d Swear There Was Somebody’
Taken from the album If I Could Only Remember My Name, pretty sure Crosby did some drugs on this one.

Brian Eno and John Cale: ‘Spinning Away’
Brian Eno and John Cale put out Wrong Way Up, it’s kind of like a dream team album. This one’s a perfect goodbye for the mixtape.
