Wolkoff teams up with Atropolis on the off-kilter anti-Valentine “He’s A Lizard”
Brimming with left-field accents, “He’s A Lizard” is the exciting new collaboration from Wolkoff and Atropolis.
The artists dedicate the single to “all the Valentine’s Day resistors and survivors of love gone awry.” Whilst acknowledging the deeply ingrained influence of dancehall on their work, the pair take the track in an utterly unique direction. For starters, there’s something equal parts menacing and masochistic in Wolkoff’s repeated crooning of the phrase “I wanna feel the damage”. Then, there’s the disjointed chords that dance over the track’s syncopated rhythm - no doubt raising the hairs on the back of your neck - whilst the subtle addition of smashing glass sounds nestled amongst the percussion add an unnerving edge.
“He’s A Lizard” is genre-bending in the truest sense, defying categorisation beyond the tentative label of synth-pop. If you’re looking for an alternative Valentine’s Day soundtrack, this is one for you.
