There is a theory that human babies are born, in all practicality, three months too soon and realistically yearn for another trimester in the womb. This allegedly explains the relative calm the infant finds physically close to its mother or in any environment simulating the womb.
Arguably, this sense of security and calm when shrouded and enveloped never really leaves us; it’s a crucial element in driving shoegaze’s all-encompassing bliss, enigma, and danger to our core. London quintet Whistlejacket play these cards impeccably and we here at Best Fit are pleased to debut their latest single, “Mr. Melon”.
The final single prior to releasing their self-titled debut EP on 24 November, “Mr. Melon” is at once a gleeful blast of 90s inspired fuzz a la Dinosaur Jr. and the engulfing swirl of My Bloody Valentine. Details – and vocals – are inscrutable, lending their sound an air of mystery and menace; regardless, its coddling layers inexplicably draw us in and cradle us.
Whistlejacket is out 24 November digitally and as an extremely limited (only 100) cassette edition, celebrating the EP launch live 20 November at The Scotch of St. James in London.
