Nova Scotia's Villages provide an uplifting sunrise soundtrack with "Upon the Horizon"

Nova Scotia-based four-piece Villages return with their anthemic folk song "Upon the Horizon" - the perfect sunrise soundtrack.

"Upon the Horizon" is the title-track from the latest EP from Nova Scotia-based quartet Villages, and sees the group searching for a sense of escapism in the outdoors during a year where most of the world has been cooped up in their homes.

Villages' new outing is the most uplifting number from the EP, lacing joyful guitar melodies with upbeat percussion that translates as if the band are performing the song from a mountaintop.

The positive new track comes at a time when most of the world is experiencing cabin fever due to the coronavirus pandemic, but lead vocalist Matt Ellis encourages an escape into the wilderness, painting a beautiful landscape of the outdoors as he sings with his folky charm, "Up all night, I'll build a fire and we'll wade in water to the waist / Wrapped up in the heat, we're back on the beach / Watch the lake's crystals caper away / As I gather a pipe and doeskin / Cast a high on a misty morning / Up all night until the sun comes up on the day."

Matt Ellis' folky vocals soar over the picturesque landscape he paints with his words, changing pitch and hitting the higher notes with ease while still maintaining a raw charm.

Ellis says of the single, "Being locked up naturally brought up visions of escapism. Escaping to the wilderness has always been a way to find peace, but when even that was not an option it was yet another thing that had been taken for granted. These vibes inspired "Upon the Horizon"."

"Upon the Horizon" is out now alongside Villages' Upon The Horizon EP on Sonic Records. Follow Villages on Instagram.
