Ellis Jones, who performs as Trust Fund, stirred up lovely, acoustic excitement with his recent EP, Don’t Let Them Begin.
The Bristol musician’s lyrical topics and chunky acoustic tones on the 7-track release from last year have led him to be labelled the British Waxahatchee.
Here though, on new track “No Surprise”, Jones starts by channeling the quieter end of Tubelord’s repertoire before showcasing the full band he now plays with live in a way that was never presented on Don’t Let Them Begin.
“No Surprise” is a standalone release for now, appearing on Reeks Of Effort’s Sick Of Hits Vol. 2 compilation, which also features Something and Lone Omi, but may yet appear on a future Trust Fund release, indicating a heavier direction that Ellis and his band may be heading in.
Trust Fund play the Reeks Of Effort Prom in Lewisham tomorrow (15 March), also featuring Joanna Gruesome and playlounge.
