Grunge tones of new single "I Was Biting" announce the return of Brighton four-piece Thyla
"I Was Biting" marks a comeback for the band after a handful of critically commended tracks unveiled throughout 2017, including the 80s assault of "Tell Each Other Lies", Cocteau Twins evocation of "Pristine Dream" and the dreamy pop of "Ferris Wheels".
Clearly not ones to rest on their laurels with a sound that grows bolder and more refined with every release, Thyla shake off their vibrant New Wave nostalgia for an altogether more guttural turn. Taking stock from '90s grunge with deep, propulsive bass and fuzzy guitars, "I Was Biting" is a commanding anthem set to be a long-term fan favourite of the band’s live set.
This new offering see's vocalist and guitarist Millie Duthie is at her most confessional and confrontational. “We have no idea what we’re doing, so I just pretend,” she bluntly states, recounting the anxiety of the mundane and pressure of societal expectation. “I only want to live in a place that I read about, ‘cause ignorance is bliss and I’m still fighting.”
