Listen: The Wytches - "The Holy Tightrope"
A deranged carnival-esque cut of surf-doom, The Wytches are back with “The Holy Tightrope”.
The b-side to Peterborough natives The Wytches’ single, “Wire Frame Mattress”, sees the band take a more relaxed, but no less bizarre approach to music. Gone is the aggressive thrash of early single “Digsaw”, instead replaced by a raw bone-rattling bassline and a slow unhurried guitar riff that recalls a zombified version of The Mermen. Singer Kristian Bell is more relaxed but no less eerie as he hums over the track’s instrumental.
Overall, “The Holy Tightrope” is a shining cut of surf-horror from Brighton that forecasts the band’s debut, Annabel Dream Reader (out 25 August - pre-order here). It could be the most eagerly anticipated album this year.
“Wire Frame Mattress” / “The Holy Tightrope” will be released on July 7 via Heavenly Records. The band will play the following dates throughout the UK:
