London-based shoegazers The Death Of Pop unveil breezy new track "Only Now" [Premiere]
Full bodied and bright, latest single "Only Now" displays The Death Of Pop's aptitude for crafting radiant reverberations.
Shimmering with c86 appeal and honey-toned textures, "Only Now" is afforded a sun-lit quality. However, despite its sunny surface, indie-pop dolefulness undercuts the track. “Being alone is all I ask of you” is uttered merely seconds in.
Much like the rest of The Death Of Pop’s oeuvres, the track's charm resides within its indulgently warm melody. Ride-esque in its gargantuan feel and breeziness, the quartet's newest cut is a homage to the scene in between.
Speaking about the track, the band says: "'Only Now' was originally written on a harpsichord in Sheffield. We experimented with lots of different arrangements of the song before settling on this final version.
"We're pleased with the recording as we feel it captures our live sound which is usually louder and noisier than our recorded output. It was self produced at our home studio in Bournemouth and mastered by Christian Wright at Abbey Road."
"Only Now" is the flipside of the recently released "Gardens". The 7-inch single is released with the Too Pure single club on the 23 October.
