Tellef Raabe enlists younger sibling Sigrid for the driving jangle of "Sister"
Yes, that Sigrid. But you might not be aware that her older brother Tellef Raabe is a fine songwriter in his own right - as his new single proves.
Tellef makes a different sort of pop music to Sigrid, as the stately-yet-direct "Sister" takes its cues from a variety of '80s influences.
Actually a song about the Raabe's other sister Johanne, an artist who has been living outside of Norway for a few years now, it's a sweet paean to brotherly (and sisterly) love. You can't help but crack a smile (or shed a tear) as Tellef recalls "In our house we grew up as three / you broke free / now lost at sea / you still hold the key".
Tellef Raabe's smooth baritone acts as a deep counterpoint to Sigrid's heavenly vocal, while guitars jangle and dart like prime Prefab Sprout, or The Smiths at their most playful.He might never see the same success as his younger sister, but Raabe is crafting his own sound, taking his own path.
