Tamu Massif airs fluid psych-pop ode "Animals"
Bristol-based artist Tamu Massif, aka Dave Dixon, has shared new single "Animals" ahead of the release of his Bala EP.
The track follows "Iron Lights" in previewing the short-player, Dixon's second, which has been produced and recorded mostly at his own home, but mixed with Perfume Genius and PJ Harvey collaborator Ali Chant.
"Animals" is a slick mix of forward-thinking electronic production, acoustic pop, and dreamy psychedelia. The results are glossy and gorgeous, with layers disintegrating and apparating apparenlty on a whim - a sense of freedom weaves through each note, adding space and charm.
"I approach writing songs as collages," explains Dixon of his creative process. "I usually layer up different sections and then connect them. On Bala sampling my own voice became integral to the songwriting process and I started recording tracks purely to lay down vocals I could manipulate elsewhere."
Dixon is opening for The Japanese House this month, and will play London's KOKO on 17 May. He'll play Citadel Festival on 16 July.
