Swedish dream pop duo Dream Lake yearn for summers past on “Midnight Sun”
Full of rich vocal harmonies and hazy summer longing, “Midnight Sun” is a burst of blissfully nostalgic melancholia from Swedish duo Dream Lake.
Singer Isabella Svärdstam yearns for the return of an enigmatic summer romance – “I just want to feel your heat/please come closer now, let’s dance to the beat” – over a bed of synths, lilting piano and reverb-heavy guitars created by multi-instrumentalist Niklas Willar Lidholm.
Describing the process of creating the song, Lidholm says; “Midnight Sun is about sinking into a pleasant memory, to let yourself travel back to that special place with that special person that will forever be a part of you. The song is based on a piano melody played by Isabella. I added some chords to it on the guitar. We wanted the music to feel like sinking into an inner space, so we added some dreamy synth layers and some dripping tones through the production process. It all came together exactly how we imagined it."
