SVFARI debuts his spacious R&B sound with “Beautiful Human”
So-called “alternative R&B” is having a moment - and for a moment, it’s got staying power.
Sorting the wheat from the chaff is becoming a time-consuming process as the genre pioneered by The Weeknd and co. widens, encompassing artists pushing in numerous differing directions. Amongst the genre’s many weird and wonderful offerings is “Beautiful Human”, the debut release from London-based artist SVFARI.
Despite being ostensibly a solo project, SVFARI is something of a family affair. After years of songwriting, SVFARI and his brother built a studio in the back garden of their family home. This lead to a year of shared production duties, eventually birthing the eclectically-influenced SVFARI sound.
“Beautiful Human” is a spacious take on R&B, playing with hypnotic vocal refrains over minimal percussion. The track’s thoughtful production is reminiscent of Cyril Hahn and Bayou, fans of whom will find some familiarity in SVFARI’s confident and polished sound.
