On the intense "Go Dig My Grave", Susanna proves once again to be an unique interpreter of songs
Norwegian singer Susanna is back with a new collaborative record featuring covers of a variety of traditional songs.
For Go Dig My Grave, Susanna has teamed up with Swiss baroque harp player Giovanna Pessi, accordion player Ida Hidle and fiddle player and folk singer Tuva Syvertsen.
The first track to be taken from a record featuring interpretations of US and English folk songs plus tracks by Lou Reed and Joy Division is "Go Dig My Grave", a song made famous by Appalachian singer Jean Ritchie.
Susanna's reedy and pure vocal is joined by the drone of harp and scrape of fiddle, replacing the hammered dulcimer of the original yet not losing any of the power of the grimly fascinating traditional story. It's yet another example of the Norwegian's genius - Susanna is as at home with her own compositions as she is breathing life into others.
The album tracklist is below:
1. Freight Train (Elizabeth Cotten)
2. Cold Song (John Dryden/Henry Purcell)
