Stream Rooms, the debut EP from The Familiar
Having fallen in love with The Familiar’s track “Dark Eyes” towards the end of last year, we’re just a little bit excited to be able to share their debut EP, Rooms, with everyone.
Set to be self-released on 20 May, the EP was recorded in rooms on opposite sides of the Atlantic - beats man Mads Martinsen working in Tromsø, Norway and vocalist Ruthy Mirsky working in her room in Brooklyn. In fact, the pair have never heard the tracks together in the same room at the same time as everything was written entirely by sending parts back and forth over email.
The results are as stunning as seductive as we’d hoped. Featuring the aforementioned “Dark Eyes” and previously revealed number “All In White”, Rooms continues the pair’s exploration into dreamy synth pop with bite: “World’s End” is a quietly anthemic, expansive number with irresistible fluctuation synths while “True Blue” is built around the sweet coos of Mirsky’s voice before EP closing number reveals a more melancholic streak.
