Swedish songwriter Skott tours pop culture's A list with “Talk About Me’ and its star-studded video
With cameos from an animated Lana Del Rey, Katy Perry, Rihanna and more, Skott deconstructs the enigma of celebrity on the lead single from her long-awaited debut album.
It’s been four years since singer/songwriter Pauline Skott, known simply as Skott, debuted with the epic “Wolf” and its double A-side “Porcelain”. The Swedish artist has kept her cards close to her chest when it’s come to talking about an album, but with a string noir-pop singles and a concept EP under her belt, it was only a matter of time before her first full-length project became a reality.
Set for release in just a couple of months, “Talk About Me” is the final single to be released ahead of Always Live For Always this summer, in partnership with her own independent label Dollar Menu and Swedish label Cosmos. “The song itself is about a little girl who dreams of becoming famous and successful”, Skott explains, “but along the way it tips over to madness and along the course of the story she loses more and more contact with reality.”
The story of the track and that descent into madness is brought to life by the incredible animated video for which Skott acted as the creative director. Filled with pop culture references the soundtrack of her ethereal vocals and otherworldly lyrics is matched to a parallel Hollywood-themed world where our animated Skott protagonist rides a beetle, flies through the desert with her own angel wings and finally ends up in outer space.
“Talk About Me” clearly shows Skott’s greatest evolution as a conceptual pop artist to date. With the new single she’s pushing the boundaries of her own creative universe, sonically, while staunchly staying within her beautifully illustrated visual world, which has been part of this project since its inception.
