Listen: SIREN – “I Think I Like You”
When long time LA pals Kat Ostenberg and Skyler Stonestreet (who may as well have called their band Ostenberg and Stonestreet because that’s a fantastic enough name as is) decided to put out their debut single, the addictively pop-fuelled “I Think I Like You”, as SIREN, I doubt they ever thought it’d blow up like it did. It immediately shot to the top of Hype Machine’s rankings, but you won’t be surprised once that chorus gets stuck in your head.
“I Think I Like You” sounds like Ostenberg and Stonestreet have picked through the styles of fellow female indie-pop artists and thrown all the best bits into one big melting pot. There’s a dash of Tegan and Sara’s most recent foray into the world of pop via their vocal harmonies, and a splash of Alex Winston and MØ in the grandiose and slightly unusual production: all twinkling, bright synths alongside booming drums.
What could quite easily have slipped into the saccharine bubblegum pop field – given it’s title and everything – manages to steer itself into what Scandipop would sound like if it was made on the west coast of America where it’s probably a tad warmer. If this is what their debut track sounds like, it’s definitely worth keeping an eye out for what they might have in store in the future.
