Cool comes easily for Stockholm’s Sindy on art-rock single “First Cut”
You might already be familiar with Tom Serner from his time fronting indie duo Ruby Empress. But while his previous project dabbled in lots of different sounds, the Swedish musician has honed down his vibe for his solo project Sindy.
The style Serner has established with Sindy holds steady across his entire debut EP, Hits For Kids. It might be described as elegantly messy, short’n’sweet rock, and new single “First Cut” is no exception to that. A two-minute art-rock stroll that takes in torn-up guitars, a little ghostly psychedelic synth line and a top class hook. What’s not to like?
“With ‘First Cut’, I was exploring modular chords and how to subtly go out of key,” explains Serner. “For the lyrics I collaged different words and lines I’ve written down over some time inspired by Elizabeth Fraser of Cocteau Twins, that goes for most of the EP.
“I think the tension between what feelings you have in mind and how careless and nonchalant you can be when you put them down is fun to play with, to me big gaps trigger the imagination.”
