Shaqdi wants to break out of the friendzone on sultry new track "Obvious"
Following on from the bold statement of "Better", Swedish artist Shaqdi returns with another understated banger in the shape of the infatuation-infused "Obvious".
On "Obvious", Shaqdi employs disco-inspired beats and her unique brand of laidback R&B to showcase her feelings of deep infatuation. The song explores a friendship which has got a bit awkward as Shaqdi is ready for it to be something more, as she sings longingly "I wanna be more / Wanna let him know".
It's a dancefloor earworm where Shaqdi uses the beats and lyrics to express all the emotions that she can't explain to the object of her affections. There's flirtation, longing and magnetic attraction all wrapped into the pounding bassline and the melodies glitter in a mesmerising neon kaleidoscope of colour.
"It’s a song about realising that you wanna be something more with a long time friend," Explains Shaqdi of the song's origins. "The whole situation is tough, because it’s awkward and you don’t want to risk losing the friendship, so you end up trying to drop hints that you think should be obvious to them, but they just don’t get it. Instead you’re just left frustrated and thinking about them constantly, rather than saying how you really feel."
The song is the second release to come from Shaqdi's upcoming EP entitled Better which is due out in June.
