Shadowy electro-R&B duo 4am share glorious debut track "More"
"Deep thinker" duo 4am are unchaining their smooth-as-silk debut offering "More" on Best Fit.
There's very little to go on beyond this first track; the bio on their Soundcloud profile reads: "Deep thinkers. Boy Girl Duo. DIY Band."
4am's debut clocks in at four minutes - nicely done, guys - and echoes like early morning footsteps in empty alleys.
It recalls the thicker textures of The xx, in all their nocturnal glory, but instead of the clarion grooves, this grabs you by the lapels and drags you into a midnight ocean. It's not as taut as Jamie, Oliver, and Remy either, but that's no bad thing. Instead, we have a hypnagogic whirlpool, drifting in and out of focus, smothered in the kinds of noises that are bone-shakingly hollow and gorgeously warm all at once. Male harmonies occasionally drift through the mist into the foreground, but for the most part this led by crackling female vocals, whispering through the darkness. Stunning.
You can find out more - or not - on their Twitter.
