Seattle’s Seapony have unveiled ‘Blue Star’, a track from the forthcoming album Go With Me, which will be released on May 31 via Hardly Art.
‘Blue Star’ is chirpy vintage guitar-pop with a fuzzed-up moodiness and the attitude of a nineties teen. Distorted guitar casts a dark shadow over the simple pop melody that embues the song with a darkness that does not let it become twee. The keen feeling of simplicity – in instrumentation and structure – makes this an endearingly catchy pop song, but also gives a sense of not-giving-a-damness that keeps it petulant and interesting.
Simple and effective, ‘Blue Star’ dances moodily on the line between grungey and girly, wearing it’s heart on it’s plaid-shirt sleeve.
