Melbourne's Rodé shares shimmering debut single "Are You Thinking Of Me?"
A Valentine's Day release, singer/songwriter Savannah Rodé – or just Rodé – reflects on all of the uncertainty around finding someone new in this heavenly slice of alternative R&B.
Inspired by artists like James Blake and Fiona Apple whose raw songwriting is front and centre, "Are You Thinking Of Me?" is product of Rodé's work with London-based artist and creative mastermind KESH. Meeting over social media, KESH flew Rodé out so they could get in the studio together. Three years in the making, the track was written in London in 2019 and is now finally out in the world.
“This song is about the early stages of attraction where you start to catch feelings for someone, but you’re not entirely sure they feel the same way," Rodé explains. "It becomes this kind of elusive, telepathic communication with each other to avoid spoiling the connection by speaking too soon."
Rodé's debut rumbles with a quiet and alluring tenacity. The very first taste of the Melbourne artist's music, it's exciting, immersive and full-bodied as electronic beats underpin her soulful vocals. Building on her already therapeutic relationship with singing, as a means to navigate and understand life, Rodé's sound and collaborative creative process has become even more healing. An EP is expected to follow later in the year.
