Bold defiance by way of Atlanta, Georgia: behold the no-frills stomp of “God’s Whisper” by prodigious 17-year-old artist singer/rapper/producer, Raury.
“God’s Whisper” is gutsy, earthy music, bulging with rootsy guitars, afropop cackles and omnipotent lead vocals. It’s the play-off between group wails of “I hear God’s whisper/I am the saviour” and Raury’s commanding staccato-spits that really pull eyelids and prick eardrums. Add to the mix statement beats and crystal production, and we’ve got a pretty perfect debut on our hands.
Inspired by genres as far reaching as hip-hop, indie and trap (and that not too uncommon life experience of detesting formal education) Raury feels music is his true calling. “When I say, ‘I am the savior’, I’m spreading that message to others. You have that whisper to you. You have your intuition. You have your own natural calling that you have to trust and follow”, he says (interview on Billboard).
“Gods Whisper” is taken from his debut EP Indigo Child, out later this year. We’re excited to hear more.
